Idaho is a diverse state with parks and recreation from north to south and from east to west. If you are in southern Idaho and travel to the north you will have a hard time believing your are in the same state. This is the just one of the beauties of Idaho.

Southwestern Idaho is for the most part an irrigated desert. Man made dams like Lucky Peak reservoir east of Boise have turned dry desert land into some of the richest and most productive farm land in the nation. Southeastern Idaho is a spectacular site of rich volcanic soils that have been created over thousands of years. Most of the "Idaho Famous Potatoes" come from this spectacular area. The famous "Bruneau Sand Dunes" are located southwest of Boise near Mountain Home and pictured to the right.
Traveling just a few hours to central Idaho one will see the difference in landscape with all the forestry that appears. You will see many streams and tributaries on your journey. You can be surrounding by massive evergreen trees and then suddenly see miles and miles of open grass meadows. One of the most popular stops in central Idaho is McCall, Idaho. I often tell people that Payette Lake which is right in the middle of McCall reminds me of the movie "On Golden Pond". I have visited McCall more times than I can remember and I still marvel at the natural beauty of this spectacular area.
Farther north near the Canadian border one will see a combination of massive dry land farms and breathtaking scenery. This area is well known for the native Indian history and Coeur d'Alene Idaho has become one of the most desirable places for people to relocate to in the northern part of the state. Lake Coeur d'Alene is a 30 mile long natural like in the center of Coeur d'Alene that offers over 109 miles of stunning shoreline beauty.

Wherever you travel you will be amazed at the number of parks and recreation areas that are available to you and your family. By visiting Idaho Parks and Recreation one can see a state map showing all the Idaho state parks. Clicking any of the parks will show you additional information for planning your next outing.
Visit Idaho and see why so many appreciate the diversity of this great state. |
